GTA 6 Physical Copies Have No Disc, and Bootleg Box Sets Are Circulating
The boxed version of GTA 6 contains a download code, not a disc. That has not stopped sellers from offering fake disc box sets, so be careful where you buy.
If you have pre-ordered a boxed copy of GTA 6, there is no disc inside. Rockstar's support site confirms that the physical edition contains a download code for the digital version of the game.
That detail matters this week, because bootleg "disc" box sets are being sold online.
What is in the GTA 6 box?
- A download code for the Standard Edition on PS5 or Xbox Series X|S.
- No game disc.
- There is no boxed Ultimate Edition. Physical owners can buy the Ultimate Edition upgrade from PlayStation Store or Microsoft Store once their Standard code has been redeemed.
Boxed copies are expected to ship and be available for pickup from November 12, and the code can be used straight away, so physical buyers can preload from November 12 just like digital buyers.
Are GTA 6 discs real?
No. Reports this week describe sellers in China offering disc-style PS5 box sets of GTA 6, including fake "Ultimate Edition" versions. Since Rockstar is not shipping a disc at launch, any GTA 6 disc you see for sale now is not an official product. Local news in Miami has also warned about GTA 6 scams ahead of launch.
Stick to PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, the Rockstar Store or a known retailer.
Will GTA 6 get a disc later?
Rockstar has not said. Some reports suggest a disc version could follow after launch, but nothing is confirmed, so treat that as a rumor.
