Miami-Dade Votes on How Far the GTA 6 Vice City Promotion Can Go
Miami-Dade County commissioners are due to vote on October 20 on Rockstar's GTA 6 marketing on county property, after pushback over a "Vice City Airport" pitch and a $975,000 rooftop sign.

Rockstar's plan to turn real-life Miami into Vice City ahead of launch has run into local politics. Miami-Dade County commissioners are scheduled to vote on Tuesday, October 20, on how far GTA 6 promotions can go on county property, a month before the game releases on November 19.
What is Miami-Dade voting on?
According to reports, county officials sent Rockstar a proposal in late June for promotions on public property. Ideas included a "Vice City Airport" arrival experience at Miami International Airport, Metromover cars wrapped in game art and a mural at PortMiami. The mayor's office says nothing has been formally agreed.
Several commissioners pushed back at an October 6 meeting, and a procedural move delayed a formal vote until October 20. That vote could limit the campaign or end the county's role in it altogether. We'll update this story once the result is reported.

Why are officials against it?
Miami-Dade Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz and Commissioner Juan Carlos Bermúdez have both objected, pointing to the game's crime and its depiction of violence against police. A county statement on the row ended with the line "Miami-Dade County is not Vice City".
Commissioner René Garcia also questioned the money involved, noting that Rockstar's overall marketing budget is reported to be far larger than what the county is getting.
What has already been approved?
- The Kaseya Center sign: Rockstar paid the county $975,000 for a "Welcome to Vice City" sign on the roof of the Miami Heat's arena. The mayor's administration approved it without a full commission vote, as the amount sits just under the $1 million level that would require one. Reports say it stays up into 2027.
- Miami Beach: separately, the City of Miami Beach approved a deal worth about $3 million in a 4-3 vote in September. It allows low-key Vice City and "VI" branding on items such as beach umbrellas and chairs until the end of the year.
What does it mean for players?
Nothing changes in the game itself. It does show how closely GTA 6's setting is tied to Miami: the arena with the new sign is widely seen as the real-world model for the one on the Vice City waterfront.
