GTA Online grew from races and deathmatches into heists, businesses and huge events. Here are the modes we expect in GTA 6 Online, based on more than a decade of GTA Online updates.

GTA 6 Online has not been announced in detail. Rockstar has only shown the story so far, and nothing has been said about modes, launch timing or progression. GTA Online, though, has run for more than ten years, and its mix of modes is the best guide to what comes next.

Will GTA 6 have an online mode?

What modes did GTA Online launch with?

When GTA Online launched in 2013, it had:

  • Races, on land, sea and air
  • Deathmatches and team deathmatches
  • Jobs from contacts, such as deliveries and shootouts
  • Free roam, with activities and other players

Heists arrived in 2015, and businesses, nightclubs and the casino came later.

Which modes will GTA 6 Online likely have?

Likely, based on GTA Online:

  • Land, sea and air races, plus stunt races
  • Deathmatches and adversary modes

Speculation: Leonida's swamps and islands could bring new modes, such as airboat races in Grassrivers or island battles in the Keys.

Will GTA 6 Online have a battle royale?

GTA Online added battle royale style modes in updates. Speculation: a dedicated mode is possible, but Rockstar has not hinted at it.
