Lucia boxes, bars erupt in brawls, and every GTA has had a baseball bat. Here is what we expect from melee weapons and hand-to-hand fighting in GTA 6.

GTA 6 melee combat is one area where the trailers do give us a hint. Lucia Caminos is shown boxing in a gym, her official bio says her father taught her to fight as soon as she could walk, and bar fights and street scraps turn up all over Leonida. Melee weapons themselves have not been clearly shown.

Past GTA games give a good guide to what will probably be in the game, so this page mixes the little we have seen with what we expect.

What melee combat is shown in GTA 6?

From official footage and screenshots:

  • Lucia throwing punches in a boxing gym
  • Fist fights and shoving matches outside clubs and on the beach
  • Plenty of people who look ready for a fight, from bikers to bouncers

That is enough to say hand-to-hand fighting is in, but not enough to say how it works.

Which melee weapons are likely?

Likely: almost every GTA has had a core set of melee weapons, and we expect most of them back:

  • Baseball bat
  • Knife
  • Golf club, given the golf and mini golf courses in Leonida
  • Crowbar or hammer
  • Pool cue, since pool tables appear in the trailers
  • Machete, a GTA Vice City favourite that fits the swamps

Speculation: Leonida's outdoors could bring new options such as a fishing gaff or a canoe paddle. That is pure guesswork.

Will Lucia be better at fighting than Jason?

Rockstar has not said, but her backstory makes it a reasonable guess. GTA 5 gave each character a special ability, and our dual protagonists page covers whether Jason and Lucia might have different strengths. Speculation: Lucia gets a stronger fighting style or a boxing-based finisher.

Will melee combat be deeper than GTA 5?

GTA 5's fist fighting was simple: a light punch, a heavy punch and a dodge. Red Dead 2 added blocking, grapples and more weight. Likely: GTA 6 sits closer to Red Dead 2, with heavier hits and more reactive opponents, matching the grounded tone of the trailers.

Can you get in bar fights in GTA 6?

The trailers show plenty of rowdy bars, from the Keys to Vice Beach, and fights in them. Starting one yourself is very likely possible, as it has been in every GTA. Expect the police to show up if it gets out of hand. See the wanted system.
