GTA 6 weapons seen so far include pistols, shotguns and rifles, carried by Jason, Lucia, criminals and police across the official trailers. Rockstar has not released a weapon list, so this page sticks to the types you can see on screen rather than model names.
What weapons are in GTA 6?
From the Grand Theft Auto 6 trailers and screenshots, these weapon types are visible:
- Pistols, the most common gun in the footage, used in robberies and standoffs
- Shotguns, seen in close-range scenes and in the hands of police
- Rifles, including assault-style rifles in tense shootouts
Melee fights and fists also show up, as you would expect in a world full of bar brawls and street scraps. We expect knives, bats and other melee weapons too, but they are not clearly confirmed.
Will GTA 6 have explosives and heavy weapons?
Grenades, rocket launchers and miniguns have been series staples for decades. They have not been a focus of the GTA 6 trailers, which keep their action grounded. We fully expect explosives to be in the game, but treat specifics as unconfirmed.
How does combat work in GTA 6?
Rockstar has not explained gunplay. The footage points to a more grounded, weighty feel than GTA 5, closer to Red Dead Redemption 2, with heavier recoil and more reactive enemies. With two protagonists, we expect some fights to let you switch between Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, as GTA 5 did with its trio.
Robberies are central to the story, so expect a lot of action during heists and the getaways that follow.
GTA 5 used a weapon wheel, and Red Dead 2 used a similar radial menu. We expect GTA 6 to keep one, possibly with a limit on how much you can carry at once, but Rockstar has not shown it.
Where do you buy guns in GTA 6?
GTA 5 had Ammu-Nation gun stores. Rockstar has not confirmed whether that chain returns, though we expect it or something like it. We will mark gun shops on the interactive map after launch, and our shops page covers other stores.
Does shooting affect your wanted level?
Almost certainly. Gunfire draws police fast in every GTA. The trailers show bystanders filming crimes on their phones, which suggests the wanted system may track witnesses more closely than before. The exact rules are unknown.
