Some guns appear in almost every Grand Theft Auto. Here are the classic weapon types most likely to return in GTA 6, from the trusty pistol to the sniper rifle and the rocket launcher.

GTA 6 weapons have not been listed by Rockstar, but the series has a core arsenal that has barely changed in 25 years. If a weapon type has appeared in GTA 3, Vice City, San Andreas, GTA 4 and GTA 5, it is a safe bet for Leonida too.

This page lists the weapon types we expect, ranked by how sure we are. Only pistols, shotguns and rifles have been clearly seen in the trailers. For those, see our main GTA 6 weapons page.

Which weapons are almost certain to return?

These have been in every modern GTA and are already visible in the trailers or close to it:

  • Pistols. The most common gun in the GTA 6 footage, held by Jason, Lucia and plenty of locals.
  • Pump and sawn-off shotguns. Shotguns appear in close-range scenes and in police hands.
  • Assault rifles. Seen in rooftop and shootout scenes, including Jason aiming a rifle over the Vice City skyline.
  • Fists and melee. Fist fights show up in several trailer scenes. See our melee weapons page.

Which weapons are very likely?

Likely: these have been series staples for decades and fit the setting:

  • Submachine guns such as the micro SMG, the classic drive-by weapon since GTA 3
  • Sniper rifles, a fixture since GTA 3 and essential for longer-range missions
  • Revolvers and heavy pistols, which Red Dead 2's gunplay pushed to the front and which already appear in Ambrosia screenshots
  • Hunting rifles, given the hunters seen in the forests of Mount Kalaga National Park

Which heavy weapons could come back?

Speculation: rocket launchers, grenade launchers and miniguns have been in almost every GTA, but the GTA 6 trailers keep their action grounded. We expect them in the game, perhaps rarer and more expensive than before. See heavy weapons and explosives.

Will GTA 6 have weapon attachments?

GTA 5 let you add scopes, suppressors, grips and extended magazines at Ammu-Nation, and Red Dead 2 had engraving and cosmetic customisation. Likely: GTA 6 offers at least the GTA 5 level of attachments and probably a cosmetic layer too. More on that in our gun shops page.

Will GTA 6 use real gun names?

No. Rockstar has always used made-up or lightly altered names, such as the "Carbine Rifle" or "Combat Pistol". Expect the same in GTA 6, which means real-world model names you see online before launch are guesses.

What guns are confirmed in GTA 6?

Only weapon types seen in the trailers: pistols, shotguns and rifles. Rockstar has not released any weapon names.

Will the minigun be in GTA 6?

Not confirmed. It has been in most GTA games, so it is likely, but probably as a rare or late-game weapon.

Can you customise guns in GTA 6?

Not confirmed. GTA 5 had attachments and tints, so some customisation is very likely.

Will GTA 6 have a sniper rifle?

Almost certainly. Sniper rifles have been in every 3D GTA, though none has been clearly shown in GTA 6 footage yet.
