GTA 6 Story DLC: Will There Be Single-Player Expansions?
GTA 4 got two story expansions and GTA 5 got none. Here is what we know about GTA 6 single-player DLC, the reports about the game expanding after launch, and what fans are hoping for.
On this page
GTA 6 story DLC has not been announced. Rockstar has said nothing about single-player expansions, and the history is mixed: GTA 4 got two full story add-ons, while GTA 5 got none at all as GTA Online took over. Fans are hoping GTA 6 goes the GTA 4 way.
Everything below is reporting, history and speculation. Nothing is confirmed.
Did past GTA games get story DLC?
- GTA 4 got The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony, two new stories set in Liberty City with new protagonists. They are still remembered as some of the best GTA content ever made.
- GTA 5 got no single-player expansions. It has been widely reported that planned story content was shelved as GTA Online grew into a huge success.
- Red Dead Redemption 2 also got no story DLC, with new content going to Red Dead Online instead.
That track record is why many fans are cautious about GTA 6.
Will GTA 6 expand after launch?
A 2022 Bloomberg report said Rockstar planned to launch GTA 6 with a more contained map and expand it over time with new missions and areas. Rockstar has never confirmed this. If it is true, the expansions might go to GTA 6 Online, to story mode, or to both.
Speculation: Leonida has room to grow. A state modelled on Florida leaves plenty of real places that are not yet represented, and our map size page covers which areas we know about so far.
What story DLC would fans want?
Community wishlists tend to include:
- A new story from the point of view of a side character, in the style of GTA 4's episodes
- A prequel about Lucia's time before prison, or Jason's army years
- A new region added to the map, such as a city further north
- More heists for Jason and Lucia after the main story
None of these has been hinted at by Rockstar. Our fan wishlist page covers what else players are asking for.
Is the Vintage Vice City pack DLC?
The pre-order and edition extras are cosmetic and online bonuses, not story expansions. See GTA 6 pre-order bonuses and editions for what is actually included.

Will GTA 6 Online get updates?
Almost certainly, if GTA 6 Online launches. GTA Online was updated for more than a decade.
