Leonida

GTA 6 is set in Leonida, a fictional state that is Rockstar's version of Florida. It is the biggest and most varied setting the series has built so far, mixing a neon-soaked city, island chains, swamps, farm country and forest into one connected map.

Leonida replaces the single-city focus of older games with a whole state. You can expect long drives between regions, very different neighbourhoods and plenty of wildlife along the way. The interactive map shows the landmarks we have spotted in each region so far.

Where is GTA 6 set?

Grand Theft Auto 6 takes place in Leonida, which is modelled on Florida in the same way that San Andreas was modelled on California. Its biggest city is Vice City, the series' long-running take on Miami, last visited in 2002's Vice City and 2006's Vice City Stories.

The story follows Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, a couple who end up on a crime spree that crosses the state. That gives Rockstar a reason to send players far beyond the city limits.

What regions are in Leonida?

Rockstar's official site lists six areas. Each has its own look and mood:

• Vice City: the glamorous, crowded heart of the state, with beaches, nightclubs and a busy port.
• Leonida Keys: an island chain linked by long highway bridges, where Jason lives and works.
• Grassrivers: wetlands full of alligators, airboats and hidden backwater spots.
• Port Gellhorn: a faded Gulf coast port town with a rough edge.
• Ambrosia: inland sugar country dominated by a large refinery.
• Mount Kalaga National Park: forested hills and trails in the north of the state.

Is Leonida based on Florida?

Yes. Leonida borrows heavily from real Florida, from Miami's Art Deco beachfront to the Everglades and the Florida Keys. The trailers even parody viral Florida clips through in-game social media feeds. Our guide to real-life Florida locations matches the regions to their likely real inspirations.

Rockstar compresses and remixes geography, so do not expect a one-to-one copy. Expect the feel of Florida rather than an exact replica.

How big is the Leonida map?

Rockstar has not given an official size. Fans who have studied the trailers expect it to be larger than GTA 5's map, and our GTA 6 map size page explains how those estimates are made and why they should be treated with caution.

When can you explore Leonida?

GTA 6 launches on 19 November 2026 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, so the full state opens up then. Until launch, every region page here is built from the official trailers and screenshots, and we will correct anything that changes once we can explore it ourselves.
