Rockstar Reportedly Asked Daft Punk to Reunite for GTA 6
A music leaker claims Rockstar offered Daft Punk an open budget to reunite for the GTA 6 score before turning to Justice. Nobody involved has confirmed it.
A week after Rockstar confirmed that Justice composed GTA 6's original score, a rumor claims the French duo weren't the first choice.
What is the claim?
On October 19, the music leak account Has It Leaked posted that Rockstar had approached Daft Punk's management about a "final comeback" for the GTA 6 soundtrack, with what was described as an almost unlimited budget. According to the post, the reunion never happened and Rockstar went to Justice next.
Outlets disagree on the details. Some say Daft Punk turned the offer down, others only that it never came together.
How believable is it?
Treat it as a rumor:
- No confirmation: Rockstar hasn't commented, and neither has anyone speaking for Daft Punk.
- No evidence shared: the leaker gave no documents or other proof. When people questioned the claim, the account pointed to its long record of Daft Punk and Justice leaks.
- Daft Punk split in 2021, and Thomas Bangalter said earlier this year that he wasn't planning a reunion.
The idea isn't far-fetched, though. Rockstar has a huge music budget for GTA 6, and Justice, another French electronic act on the Ed Banger label, are a natural second choice if the story is true.
