This GTA 6 launch day checklist helps you be ready to play the moment Grand Theft Auto VI unlocks on 19 November 2026. Preloading opens on 12 November, so most of the prep can be done a week early. The dates and editions below are confirmed, while the in-game tips are our expectations.

Launch days for big games are busy. Servers get hammered, downloads slow down and patches drop at the last minute. A little preparation saves a lot of waiting.

When can you preload GTA 6?

Digital preloading starts on 12 November 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X and Series S. The game itself unlocks on 19 November. Read our preload and file size guide and the preload date news for the details.

What should you do before launch day?

Work through this list in the week before release:

  1. Confirm your pre-order and edition. Standard and Ultimate Editions are available, and you can upgrade to Ultimate after purchase. See editions and price.
  2. Free up storage. The final file size has not been confirmed, so clear more space than you think you need.
  3. Start the preload on 12 November and let it finish.
  4. Enable automatic updates so any day-one patch installs in rest mode.
  5. Check your pre-order bonuses, including the Vintage Vice City Pack and, for digital pre-orders, one month of GTA+.
  6. Update your console system software.

What should you do in your first hour?

Once the game unlocks, we suggest:

  • Set subtitles, camera and display options before the first mission.
  • Pick a performance or quality mode if offered. Our performance guide has what we know.
  • Follow the story at first, since early missions usually unlock key features.
  • Avoid spoilers on social media until you have played a few hours.

Is GTA 6 on PC at launch?

No. GTA 6 launches on PS5 and Xbox Series X and Series S only. A report says a PC version could arrive in early 2027, but Rockstar has not confirmed it.

Where can you find locations after launch?

We will update the Vice Map interactive map with shops, collectibles and points of interest as players discover them. Bookmark it before launch day.

FAQ

What time does GTA 6 unlock?

Rockstar has not announced an exact unlock time. Digital games often unlock at midnight local time, but check closer to the date.

Can you play GTA 6 early?

No early access has been announced. Preloading lets you download the game from 12 November, but you cannot play until 19 November.

Do I need the Ultimate Edition?

No. The Standard Edition contains the full game, and you can upgrade to Ultimate later if you change your mind.

Is the pre-order bonus available after launch?

Rockstar has only described the Vintage Vice City Pack as a pre-order bonus. Whether it becomes available later is unknown.
