The biggest GTA 6 new features are a pair of linked protagonists in Jason and Lucia, a whole state to explore in Leonida, an in-game social media layer and a world that looks far busier than anything Rockstar has made before. Some of these are clearly shown in trailers, while others are expectations based on what we have seen.

This page sorts the confirmed changes from the likely ones so you know what to look forward to on 19 November 2026.

What are the confirmed new features in GTA 6?

These are visible in official trailers or on the official site:

  • Two protagonists in one story. Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos work together as a couple.
  • A female lead. Lucia is the first female lead in a mainline GTA in decades.
  • A full state. Leonida includes Vice City plus the Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga National Park.
  • In-game social media. Trailers show livestream and short video feeds parodying viral Florida clips.
  • Wildlife. Alligators, flamingos and other animals appear across the trailers.

How will the dual protagonists work?

GTA 5 had three leads with separate lives who met up for missions. GTA 6 looks different, with two people who share a relationship and a story from the start. We expect switching between them to be part of the design, along with missions built around both working together.

Our dual protagonists page covers what is known and what is still speculation.

Is the GTA 6 world more detailed than GTA 5?

Every trailer suggests yes. Beaches and streets are packed with people, interiors look more common and the landscapes are far more varied. We expect more enterable buildings and more ambient activity, though Rockstar has not given numbers.

You can explore what is known about the regions on our interactive map and our GTA 6 map size page.

Will police and crime work differently?

Trailers show police chases, convenience store robberies and getaways by car and boat. It seems likely that the police will react in smarter ways than in past games, especially with so many witnesses around. See our wanted system guide for what we expect.

What other new features are likely?

Based on the trailers and Rockstar's recent work, we expect:

  • More ways to change your look, including gyms and clothing.
  • A bigger focus on boats, given Leonida's coastline and swamps.
  • More dynamic world events, like weather and wildlife encounters.
  • A phone that ties into the social media layer.

These are expectations, not promises, and we will mark them as confirmed only once the game is out.
